EPISODE 104: ELIZABETH (Be Enough Series)

BE IN THE WORD (This Week’s Verses):

“Shortly after his return, Elizabeth became pregnant. She avoided public contact for the next five months.” (Luke 1:24)

“You are blessed, Mary, blessed among all women, and the child you bear is blessed! And blessed I am as well, that the mother of my Lord has come to me! As soon as I heard your voice greet me, my baby leaped for joy within me. How fortunate you are, Mary, for you believed that what the Lord told you would be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:42-45)

BE DOERS, NOT JUST HEARERS (Practical Application):

  1. Is there an Elizabeth in your life? Someone who is righteous, with a heart for God’s will even if it means not getting her heart’s desire? Send her a note of encouragement from Luke 1. Not to promise that she’ll ultimately get what she wants, but to tell her you see who she is. How you see her gifts shared with others, how her faith is inspiring, how her unending encouragement is a blessing to you.
  1. If you’re an Elizabeth, find a Mary. And if you’re a Mary, find an Elizabeth. Whatever circumstances you find yourself in that seem preposterous or crazy, and you’re questioning God asking what on earth He’s doing – there is someone around you that can either mentor you or you can mentor through it. God loves to double-up – He did it with animals on the ark and He did it with Mary & Elizabeth. Find your other person to walk with and be a blessing for each other.

BE EDUCATED (Additional Resources):

  1. Giddy Up, Eunice by Sophie Hudson. It’s easy for women to focus on what seems to separate us: differences in age, parenting styles, career goals, or maybe even core beliefs about whether leggings can adequately serve as pants. The reality, though, is that we have far more in common than we realize, and since Scripture shows us the blessing of friendships across generations, it’s high time we step out of our same-age, same-stage silos. Life is so much better that way. Sophie sends out a rallying cry for women everywhere to open our eyes and see the people God has put in our lives—whether they’re behind us, beside us, or in front of us. It is such a gift to love one another, walk with one another, and soak up the blessings that flow across all generations.
  1. The Women of Christmas by Liz Curtis Higgs. A sacred season is about to unfold for three women whose hearts belong to God. Elizabeth is barren, yet her trust in God remains fertile. Mary is betrothed in marriage, yet she is willing to bear God’s Son. Anna is a widow full of years, yet she waits patiently, prayerfully for the Messiah to appear in the temple courts. Following in their footsteps, you too can prepare for the Savior to enter your heart, your mind, and your life in a vibrant, new way. Liz explores the biblical stories of Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna, unwrapping each verse with tender care and introducing you afresh to The Women of Christmas.
